Price record
Shadow Hand: the price is a quotation
There is no public Shadow Dexterous Hand price list to track. Every unit is built to order, and the $110,000 figure that circulates is third-party.
Shadow Robot's own site says every robot is built to order and directs buyers to discuss pricing. The widely repeated $110,000 and 1,500,000 RMB figures are third-party estimates, which is why this record carries tier D, the quote-only grade.
What the vendor publishes
Two statements on Shadow's site settle the question. Every robot is built to order and tailored to the buyer's requirements. Buyers are asked to contact the team to discuss requirements, discuss pricing and book a demo. That is a quote-only sales model, not a missing number, and it explains why no archived list price is likely to appear: configured research hardware is priced per project.
The same site states the Dexterous Hand has 24 movements and 20 degrees of freedom, and describes a DEX-EE three-finger hand developed with Google DeepMind. A market report describes DEX-EE as 12 DOF with fingertip camera arrays, a 0.01–18 N force range and a cost around two thirds of the earlier hand. A Chinese industry survey describes a Shadow Hand Lite with 16 movements and 2.4 kg hand-plus-forearm mass.
Third-party figures, kept separate
| Figure | Source | What it is | Tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| ~$110,000 | US dealer comparison, 2025 | Dealer list price | C |
| ~$110,000 | Chinese industry survey | Reported price, 20 DOF, 4.3 kg with forearm | C |
| ~1,500,000 RMB | Market report, 2026 | Historical characterization | C |
| 1,600,000–2,600,000 RMB | Market report; Chinese press | High-end configurations, past quotes | C |
| $50,000–200,000 | Academic paper | Category range for research hands | C |
None of these is a dated, attributable Shadow price list. Converting the RMB figures into dollars at different exchange rates and comparing them with $110,000 would produce a fake time series, so this record does not do it.
Why quote-only is a procurement fact
- Budget approval cannot cite a public price. Procurement needs a written quotation with configuration, warranty and lead time.
- Comparisons against an Allegro or a LEAP kit are comparisons between a configured system and an off-the-shelf product. Any RFQ should say so.
- A price history will only be built retroactively, from purchase disclosures, grant records, paper acknowledgements and archived dealer pages.
Shadow's July 2026 announcement on expanding access to dexterous robotics and an October 2026 partnership with Fraunhofer IFF on tactile-driven manufacturing are both on the vendor newsroom. Neither includes a price. If the sales model changes, this page records the date.
What is not verified
- No dated Shadow price list or verifiable quotation exists in public.
- The $110,000 dealer listing has not been confirmed as current.
- The 20-versus-24 DOF ambiguity is unresolved in secondary sources.
Questions
Can I find a Shadow price online?
Dealers and market reports publish figures from past quotations or estimates. None is a vendor list price, and they may describe different configurations, years or regions.
Why not just convert the RMB figure?
Because a converted estimate from an unknown year and configuration is not a price observation. It would look precise and be wrong.
Does the sales model ever change?
Not as of November 2026. If it does, this page records the date and the new terms.
