Unitree Dex5-1 / Dex5-1P
The same hand in two variants, mechanically identical: the P adds 94 pressure sensors in 12 arrays and roughly $2,000–3,000 to the price.

Unitree publishes a two-column parameter table for the Dex5-1 and Dex5-1P, and reading it is the fastest way to avoid a procurement mistake. Every mechanical and electrical field is identical: 1,100 g, 217.3 × 127.5 × 72.1 mm, 20 degrees of freedom (16 active, four passive), 10 N fingertip force, ±1 mm repeatability, USB 2.0 at 1,000 Hz, 24–60 V supply.
The difference is sensing. The P carries 12 pressure sensor arrays with 94 sensors distributed across the palm, five finger pads, five fingertips and four finger roots, a 10 g to 2,500 g range, and two extra fields in its feedback packet. That is the whole delta, and it is worth knowing before you write an RFQ that says "Dex5-1" and receive a hand with no pressure arrays at all.
The standard hand is not force-blind
Unitree describes the 12 micro force-controlled composite joints as providing force proprioception without tactile sensors. That is accurate and easy to misread. The standard hand can report joint torque and detect contact through the transmission; it cannot tell you where on the fingertip the contact happened. If your work needs contact location, the P is the variant, and the premium is about 8–12%.
Availability is genuinely unclear
One dealer listing states the Dex5-1 is not yet available and has no confirmed release date. A US storefront snapshot dated 11 August 2026 lists both variants and a pair of P hands at $47,000. Those claims conflict. Unitree's own page documents the hardware without a public price. This record publishes the conflict and grades every price tier C.
There is a second constraint worth flagging: a dealer states the Dex5 hands are compatible only with the G1 EDU (U1) platform and above. If you are planning to mount one on a research arm rather than a Unitree humanoid, confirm the interface before ordering. Our RFQ template has a field for exactly this.
Who should not buy it
Do not buy it as a stand-alone hand for a non-Unitree arm without written confirmation of the interface. Do not buy the standard variant if you need contact location, and do not buy the P if you only need grasp force, because the composite joints already report that. And do not treat the $24,000 figure as a vendor price: it is a storefront observation, not a Unitree list price.
Specification
The right-hand column records where each field comes from: vendor documentation, a dealer page, or a conflict between sources. Fields marked unverified have no attributable public value.

Tier A: documented list price. B: sources disagree by more than 15%. C: estimate or press figure. D: quote only. See methodology.
What is not verified
- No official Unitree price for either variant.
- Availability conflicts between a dealer listing and a storefront snapshot.
- The letter P is not defined on the vendor page; the function is described, not the name.
Questions buyers ask
What does the P add?
94 pressure sensors in 12 arrays and two extra feedback fields. Every mechanical field is identical to the standard hand.
Does the standard Dex5-1 have any force sensing?
Yes, through force-controlled composite joints. It reports joint torque but not contact location, which is what the pressure arrays add.
Will it fit my arm?
Only Unitree's own platform is documented, and a dealer states G1 EDU (U1) and above. Get written confirmation for anything else.
